Greening up, distributing loss and minimum bet sizeGreening up, distributing loss and minimum bet size
As you probably know already, it takes two bets to complete a green-up. You must lay a bigger bet at a lower price and back a smaller bet at a higher price. For example, lay £20 at 1.98, then back £17.92 at 2.21.

There is a reverse betting operation, sometimes referred to as "stop loss" or "distribute loss" or even "red up". It lessens your potential risks by literally distributing the potential loss on one selection between all selections in the market. In this case you back a bigger stake at a lower price and lay a smaller stake at a higher price.
For example,

In an ideal world you would be able to place any bet, whatever its size is, and complete this trade to secure equal profit.
However, BetFair limits the size of bet to £2 (or an equivalent in other currencies). Because of this restraint, you might not be able to complete one of the bets. For instance, if in the first case (see first picture) I had laid £2 instead of £20, I wouldn't have been able to back, because in that case the back bet size would have been £1.79.
Here are some rules we advise you to follow when greening up or distributing the loss.
When greening up
If you lay first, then the size of the back bet may be below the minimum.
If you back first, you will complete your trade regardless of the price.
When distributing loss
If you back first, the size of the lay bet may be below the minimum.
If you lay first, you will complete the second bet.
To make sure that the second bet is placed no matter what the price is, you can turn on the following option in "Betting Options"

If X-Feeder increases the bet up to its minimum size, the profit from a green-up may be less than expected, because the proportion of liabilities will be upset. The minimum profit you will get will depend on how much the price of the second bet differs from the price of the first bet: the bigger is the difference, the less is the profit in case the selection loses.

However, this is still a better option that an unclosed trade, and at any rate your risk will be zero.
